Rinse beans and snap into halves or thirds. Place beans over ham. Simply mix in 2 cups of cooked, cut up ham in place of the ham hock. Pour chicken broth over all. Place chopped onion and minced garlic over bean/ham mixture. Don't use canned green beans, however, as they are already cooked and will go to mush by the end of the cook time. Cover and cook on high 4 hours. When I got older I found a lazy yet still effective way to make a mean pot of soulful Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Also, it's best to use fresh green beans if you have them, but frozen green beans are a close second. Place cut up ham hock in crock pot.
